What is Nightline?
Northampton Nightline is a listening service run by students for students, and supported by the Students' Union.
Northampton Nightline is a student listening service which is open at night and run by students for students, supported by the Students' Union. One night a week, student volunteers answer calls to their fellow university students about anything that's troubling them. We offer a confidential and anonymous service, where Nightline Listeners provides a non-judgmental or advisory listening service.
We are here for you to talk to, and to listen to you only.
We are part of a nationwide Nightline Association, which have call Centre in 36 different Universities. For more information see their website http://Nightline.ac.uk/
Who can use the service?
Anyone who is a student at the University of Northampton. You can talk to us about anything, this could be home sickness, you burning your pizza, exam stress, housemate arguments or other personal issues happening in your life.
Listeners are not allowed to discuss your phone calls with anyone else, so you can rest assured that what you tell them remains confidential.
If you ask a Listener for a phone number, such as the doctors they are able to provide this to you. But only if you ask.
When I can speak to someone?
Nightline operates on a voluntary basis and currently is open and receiving calls every Friday from pm until am (term time).
If you need someone to talk to do not hesitate and give them a call on 01604893819; they will listen, not lecture.
Can I volunteer with Nightline?
We are currently looking for volunteers to help the Nightline service. We have two volunteering roles available which is the Nightline Listener or a Friend of Nightline Team Member. Both roles are equally important.
We are a very small team at the moment, which is why we only offer a service on a Friday night. As we grow we hope to increase our support service.

A Listener is specially training to work the nightshift taking phone calls, and answering emails from students. You do not ask for personal details or lecture. You just actively listen and support. You can never publicly say you are Nightline Listener, as you have to remain anonymous. You cannot tell people out of the service anything about the phone calls you take.
Currently we run a service on Friday Nights term time only, from pm – am. You need to ensure you will be available to for these shifts once a fortnight.

Friends of Nightline (Promotional Team)
Friends of Nightline are student volunteer to whose aim is to promote Nightline and it's service. These amazing volunteers are not Nightline Listeners, and do not volunteer on the Friday night shifts. Their role is
- Manage the Friends of Nightline Facebook Page
- Run Nightline Stalls at Union Days
- Help collect contact details for anyone who might want to join either of the Nightline Teams
- Run marketing campaigns about Nightline
- Run awareness campaign's to do with de-stress from exams, home sickness or mental health (to name a few)
These volunteers are not trained to support students, like our listeners, so if you see them with their T-shirts ask them about the service, but remember they only promote it.
