Student Volunteering Week 2016

This Student Volunteering Week we're asking students to EXPLORE the voluntary opportunities available at the University of Northampton and in the local area, to PLEDGE to an activity in contributing to social action and to MAKE IT COUNT by ensuring you are able to reflect on your experience and present it professionally in CVs and in job interviews. #pledgeUN

The University of Northampton, Students' Union and its local and national community partners offer a wide variety of differnet volunteering opportunities, whether you're looking for something to do just for a day or looking to get involved in a longer-term project - why not explore your volunteering options?

Come and meet the dedicated Volunteering Team at the following locations throughout the week :

  • Tuesday 23 February, 11am - 1pm, Avenue Campus Changemaker Hub
  • Wednesday 24 February, 11am - 1pm, Park Students' Union.

Or browse your options from the comfort of your own bed by visiting:

Make your search specific; so if you are interested in environmental volunteering in the UK, google ‘environmental volunteering UK’

Once you’ve decided, then make contact with your chosen voluntary organisation and find out more. When you are happy that you want to do it, move on to the pledge stage. We can help you with this bit if you are not sure what to do.

If you're looking for a one day micro-volunteering opportunity, why not get involved in one of our Student Volunteering Projects!

Logging your Volunteering

Thursday 25th Febrauy, 2pm - 4pm

Grendon G151

Unsure on how to log your volunteering hours.  Meet the expert who will talk you through the process.

Sharing your pledge to volunteering and community action is a great means to spread awareness of your supported activity and keep you on track.

In December 2015, BBC Radio 1 launched an ambitious challenge - #1millionhours. A campaign designed to get the British public pledging to support local communities and organisations and together through small acts we can make a collectively large difference. Even just a few hours could change the life of someone in need.

After browsing the opportunities available to you and deciding what volunteering activity you want to get involved in, let us know that you’ve become part of the movement by tweeting with the #1millionhours and #pledgeUN hashtag

Don’t forget to mention the hours you're pledging and the organisation you are pledging it to. This way we can keep track of the fantastic effort being put in by you all and our impact on the community.

Don't have twitter? Don't worry check out this GUIDE to setting up a twitter account or visit our Student Volunteering Week ambassadors at Park Students' Union, Avenue and Park Changemaker Hubs and roaming on campus.
