A trip through History

People spend a fortune to have The ‘Bentley Feel’ but we were among the handful of lucky ones to experience it without paying a single penny as part of a Global Student Society event (GSS).

The journey started at 6.15 am which was the real test of the level of excitement we had to visit Bentley. All of us made it in time and we left for Crewe where Bentley has its production facility.

We reached there with faces lightened with the excitement. Our guide for the factory tour was Mr. Alan who has been with Bentley for the past 36 years. Listening to the history from the man himself was a lifetime experience in itself. He was our Pied Piper for the day. As we walk through the corridors of the factory, he unfolded the stories. We were given some souvenirs by Bentley as well.

The production facility is a superb fusion of advanced technology and handmade crafts. The interior of the cars are made by human hands with admirable precision. These cars are made to order for people from customized colors of interior to the exterior color. Every car that goes out to the customer is passed through a process of quality check that eliminates the probability of any error or damage to almost zero.

There is an exhibition center of Bentley including their first ever racing car that used to accelerate up to 120 mph in 1920. There is another Bentley that was a gift given back to the company by an elderly couple. This car was previously a gift to the bride by the groom as a wedding gift.

The souvenir shop within the factory has a lot of items branded by Bentley for its visitors. People buy souvenirs from this shop for themselves and their loved ones. Being a cap lover, I bought a branded baseball cap from there.

The trip was one of the best events organized by GSS. We would like to thank the committee of GSS for providing us with an opportunity to have the ‘Bentley Feel’.
